Today was Robert Pattinson's turn to hit the morning shows, appearing on both "Today" and "Live with Regis and Kelly" for his round of "New Moon"-related questioning. Clad in a strategically unbuttoned green dress shirt, white v-neck undershirt, and dark grey blazer, he talked to the morning hosts about dating someone whose name rhymes with "Tristan Bluart," biting and "Twilight" moms, and graciously signed autographs for fans.
Maybe they learned from yesterday's very brief segment with Kristen Stewart, but "Today" went the one-host-interview route with Rob instead of having all four hosts grilling him at once, and it made for a much more entertaining interview. That's also probably due to the fact that Rob is a lot more forthcoming and unguarded when talking to the press than Kristen, but having Matt Lauer talk to Rob solo proved highly entertaining. Plus, the "Today" show got to use the "Interview with a Vampire" graphic I'm sure they've been waiting forever to show America.
Pre-interview, Rob braved the rabid fans camped outside of the studio to sign a few autographs, but the "Today" crew didn't arm him with a jacket. "I'm worried about it being too cold outside," he told Matt, but spent several minutes signing autographs and chatting with fans before returning to the warmth. (He also signed autographs for fans during the "Regis and Kelly" commercial break. What a guy.)

Back inside, Matt asked Rob whether he knew the first "Twilight" movie would be so successful. "Yeah I actually bought up a whole load of the DVDs and I'm going to sell them out the back of a truck," he joked. "No, I had no idea whatsoever...I wish I could give a more wide understanding of what it's like but I feel exactly the same. I speak in an American accent when I'm talking to crowds because it's so separate to my actual life. I still feel like I'm acting. I think that's the way I don't go completely mad."
It's a good thing "Twilight" came along when it did, because Rob was thinking about giving up acting. "Literally the day before this audition I was going to quit acting, because I never got any jobs. I guess it's not really quitting if you're not getting any jobs, it's just surrendering to fate."
Instead, he got to play Edward, whom Matt called "the perfect romantic." "It's funny, because I never play it as that, ever," Rob said. "And that's what I don't understand about all this. I mean, I understand the character in the book is obviously — you can see why he's the ideal guy. The book is through Bella's eyes and she's madly in love with him, infatuated with him, so I've always had to find the negative aspects of it."
Then it was rumor de-bunking time, where we found out that everything written about Rob in the tabloids over the past year is true. He's been dating "literally nonstop," got engaged, got hit by a cab, had a drug overdose, and is dating one of his costars whose name rhymes with "Tristan Blewart." "Um, Tristan Blewart. There was a Listan Hewart?" We also found out the source of the rumors: "I actually come up with these rumors about myself."
Clearly, Rob thrives in a one-on-one atmosphere, because when he went on "Regis and Kelly" later, the hosts stepped on his every response and didn't give Rob a chance to be as self-deprecatingly funny as usual. Of course he was as charming as ever — when Kelly pointed out a group of women in the audience wearing "Twilight Mom" shirts, Rob responded, "They always claim to be 'Twilight' moms but they always look too young." All together now: awwwwww. But Rob saved his best quip for when Reege asked what girls find so alluring about vampires: The drama? The biting? "Yes. Just the biting."
